The year has been full of highs and lows; Times of joy and optimism and times of exhaustion and defeat.
We are thankful for the experiences, the adventure, the missteps and the mistakes as we inch toward our ultimate goals. The list below is from our farm calendar I keep to remind us of all the things we do and incorporate into our lives that keep us moving forward, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
- The Old Garage is finally done with fresh new paint. The Barn doors were built from Billy’s original Morganton Barn salvage in 2015. New concrete floors were poured. New Lighting was added inside and out. We finally got around to a more permanent working garage organization and Fred built a new workshop table perfect for heavy duty projects.
- The new property fence is up around the original J&W house and entry gates and painted.
- The Farm roads and driveway road infrastructure is cut.
- Kudzu curtains and brush to spring cleared. Trails cut and cleared inside the perimeter.
- Massive trash removal from land and springs done.
- Camping site by spring cleared.
- Hives opened up and combs built.
- Orchard and Blueberry fields planted.
- Chickens are laying again mid-winter. 13 survived the October coop fire that cost us almost 25 chickens in under an hour.
- Clearing for entry fountain to be added started.
- Two Barns deconstructed and moved to property.
- 4 silos brought whole to property.
- 5 silos deconstructed and brought to property.
- Future home driveway and homesite clearing began.
- Learned to forage for and cook Chanterelle mushrooms.
- Moved two smaller coops to property and built a small prefab one.
- Demo sidewalk to home and beds.
- Added Ranger to our family.
- Family beach vacation.
- Walker went to his first week of overnight camp.
- Bennett broke his leg and then his other arm.
- Christmas 2021 decorations including making 20 Christmas outdoor balls!
- APEC Electric ushered in its best year and its best staff yet.
- Jen was promoted at work.
